Petra or Petra [1] is an archaeological and historical city located in Ma’an Governorate in the south of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Famous for its rock-carved architecture and the old water traction system.

It was called “goods “, as called the “Pink City” relative to the colours of its twisted rocks

Petra was founded almost in 312 BC as the capital of the kingdom of the Nabateans  It has been a prestigious place for many years, as its position on the Silk Road, the Mediterranean for the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Palestine and Egypt, has played a major role, making the state of the Andes a country of ownership of the trade between the civilizations and peoples of these regions.

The city is located on the slopes of the altar mount, among a group of towering Rocky Mountains, which form the northwest side of the Arabian Peninsula, namely the Wadi Araba, from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba.

The site of Petra remained undetected for the West throughout the Ottoman period, until it was rediscovered by the Swiss orientalist Johan Ludwig Perchardt in 1812. The city of Petra was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. [6] It was also selected as one of the Seven Wonders of the New World in 2007.
